Rat Snake Moon
In egg-white light—
shadow pines
glide, scaled bellies
to earth, darken
Virginia creeper
& rabbit clover,
blackberry canes
heavy with ruby fruit.
Drunken mollusk
trails glisten,
silver as vole pelts
with a sheen like
velvet. No katydids
or crickets, just
the hush of night,
twinkling with wind
chimes & flashing
fireflies, tiny satellites
orbiting giants.
